The Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors (OAND) provides leadership, advocacy and support for the profession in Ontario.
Established in 1950, the OAND is a voluntary professional Association representing 67 percent of Ontario’s 867 registered Naturopathic Doctors.
Leading●Advancing●Promoting
The OAND supports Naturopathic Doctors as integral partners in the health care system by:
• LEADING & representing the profession's interests
• ADVANCING Naturopathic Medicine by fostering clinical excellence in patient centered care.
• PROMOTING the success of Naturopathic Doctors through public awareness & education
Over the next 3 years the following strategies will be implemented to achieve member priorities for the association.
Promote naturopathic medicine
For the past 3 years OAND members have consistently ranked promotion of the profession as the paramount issue that they want to see their provincial association address. Due to the pressing matters related to regulation and scope of practice and the budgetary constraints of the association, resources have been reallocated to other priorities. Given the importance of the public's awareness of the profession and the need for other regulated health professionals to better understand the scope of naturopathic doctors the OAND board is giving the highest priority to this strategic direction over the next 3 years. The promotion campaign that will be developed will be spread over 3 years and will raise awareness about naturopathic medicine across the province.
Advance and represent the interests of the profession
The primary purpose of a professional association is to achieve for the collective what the individual cannot possibly achieve. The OAND membership has consistently conveyed the importance of raising the profile of the profession to the government, other stakeholders and in the health care system at large. The next 3 years will present significant opportunities for the profession as we develop the framework for new regulations under the RHPA and the government develops new initiatives to address the need for patient access to high quality primary care. To ensure the success of the profession in being recognized as primary care providers that can contribute significantly to the health of Ontarians, the OAND will engage a number of strategies over 3 years.
A fully engaged membership
Naturopathic Doctors in Ontario have always supported a strong provincial association and this commitment has never been more important as we enter into a new regulatory framework side by side with all the other health professions. To ensure the ongoing growth and strength of the association, the OAND Board commits to strengthening the mechanisms by which individual members link themselves to the work of the association. Building a strong professional association is dependent on individuals feeling they are a part of the work and outcomes of the community they have committed to being a part of.
Ensure a sustainable, high-performance, strategic association
The economic and social environment is changing significantly and to ensure ongoing relevance, sustainability and effectiveness, it is paramount that organizations and in particular associations fully understand the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. In assessing the position of the organization in the larger socio-economic environment the OAND will implement leadership development initiatives, review member fees, and seek to diversify its funding base.
