Nutritional, Hormonal, and Microbial Imbalances in Rheumatoid Arthritis and Psoriasis
For this presentation, Dr Vasquez will apply a naturopathic medicine and functional medicine approach to assessing and treating patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and psoriasis are both recognized as autoimmune diseases, and the two conditions share very similar etiologies and pathophysiology, and treatments are often very similar as well, whether with drugs or with a comprehensive interventional nutrition protocol. Dr Vasquez has published extensively on systemic inflammatory diseases, autoimmune conditions, and other conditions commonly encountered in clinical practice. Attendees will access a deep level of understanding of these conditions, gain knowledge about their clinical assessments, and will also learn how to safely and effectively treat these conditions using diet, nutritional supplementation, botanical medicines, hormone balancing ("orthoendocrinology") and--when necessary--select pharmaceutical drugs.
Alex Vasquez, DC, ND, DO
 | Alex Vasquez is a Doctor of Chiropractic (University of Western States, 1996), Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine (Bastyr University, 1999), and Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (University of North Texas Health Science Center Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, 2010). Practicing in Oregon as a Naturopathic Physician, he has taught Orthopedics and Rheumatology at Bastyr University and has given innumerable post-graduate seminars to doctors internationally. |
He is the author of approximately 80 articles and letters in magazines, newspapers, and peer-reviewed journals including Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine, JAMA, The Lancet, British Medical Journal, Annals of Pharmacotherapy, Journal of the American Osteopathic Association, Integrative Medicine, Evidence-based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, and Arthritis & Rheumatism--official journal of the American College of Rheumatology. Dr Vasquez has written several textbooks for doctors, including Integrative Orthopedics, Integrative Rheumatology, Musculoskeletal Pain: Expanded Clinical Strategies, Chiropractic and Naturopathic Mastery of Common Clinical Disorders, and Integrative Medicine and Functional Medicine for Chronic Hypertension. Dr Vasquez's current affiliations include National University of Health Sciences (Adjunct Professor), Institute for Functional Medicine (Faculty), University of Western States (Affiliate Faculty), and Biotics Research Corporation (Director of the Medical Board of Advisors).
