Convention 2010 is taking on the very pertinent issue of chronic disease. Naturopathic Doctors are specialists in preventing the onslaught of chronic disease, which is a world wide problem with the prevalence rates for chronic disease now out pacing infectious diseases as the leading cause of death.
The good news for health care providers is that chronic diseases can be prevented. Naturopathic Doctors are specialists in the prevention of disease and it is for this reason that we chose the theme of Convention 2010. We have invited world class MDs like Dr., Gabor Mate and Dr. James Biddle, to come and deliver their cutting edge research, knowledge and skills to address the issues of depression, mind/body connection and cardiovascular disease and cure. We have invited published and well respected NDs—Natasha Turner and John Millar, to discuss the chronic conditions and risks associated with obesity and the use of epigenetics to diagnose and treat chronic disease. Additionally, Dr. Aristo Vojdani, PhD, will be joining us for a very in-depth look at the immune system and the onset of auto-immune diseases. The OAND Turns 60! It was October 12, 1950 when a group of Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) incorporated to form the OAND, with the goal of unifying the profession and providing quality health care to Ontarians. In fact, Ontario was the first province in the country to regulate Drugless Therapists (DT). Since then, NDs have dedicated themselves to improving the health and lives of patients across the province. Sixty years later the Naturopathic profession in Ontario has recently been awarded prescribing rights and is awaiting the opening of the new College of Naturopaths. We have a lot to celebrate with the hundreds of Naturopathic Doctors improving the health of Ontarians! The OAND will be hosting a Gala Event at our annual Convention, November 13-14, 2010 at the International Centre, Toronto, ON - to celebrate this milestone.
